Cork bulletin boards are great for displaying items, but cork isn't the most attractive color/texture. In this post, I'll show you how to cover a cork bulletin board with fabric to give it a quick makeover. It doesn't take a huge amount of fabric, and it's an easy way to add a pop of color to your bulletin board.

Materials used

Cork bulletin board (check thrift stores for these--they always seem to have them!)
1/2 yard fabric

How to Cover Your Cork Bulletin Board with Fabric

My cork bulletin board had a plastic frame around it originally. It was glued on, but still pretty easy to dislodge with a screwdriver and then peel off. Once you have your cork detached from its frame, cut some fabric, leaving about 2-3" extra all around your cork board.

I stapled the fabric to the cork board along the straight edges, leaving the corners undone. I left about 2" unstapled on either side of all of the corners.

Around the corners, I pleated the fabric with my fingers, held it in place, and stapled generously. Don't bunch your pleats too much--try to keep them evenly spaced.

Here's how this corner looked from the front:

This is how the back looked after I stapled everything. I trimmed away some of the excess fabric, too.

And the entire front:

Next, I put the frame back on. I didn't glue it again because the fabric added a little extra width, which helped the plastic frame keep its grip.

You can see a small gap at the front, but overall, the frame went back on nicely. The fabric adds a small amount of bulk, which is why the frame didn't close entirely, but it's not that noticeable.
